When Navy Veteran Jasmine left the Navy in 2016 she had big dreams.  She went to D.C. and received her Bachelors from Howard University in 2021.  She was ready to go!!  But at the end of the pandemic, she moved to Chicago to be closer to her Mom and help her out.  With family health issues, the passing of her Grandmother, the pandemic and struggling to find a job that paid a living wage, she worked hard to find a way out.  She did this while living in her car after an eviction.  Her VA checks were not enough to survive, but she earned enough to get a small studio but soon after moving in, someone was murdered in the hallway of that building, so she left as it was unsafe.   She finally went to the VA to get help and the VA connected her to Inner Voice and National Able for a job or internship to make money and find a safer place to live.  “I just wanted to make a life for myself but kept facing new and more challenges.  Inner Voice found temporary housing at one of their houses until I could stand on my own.  Between National Able helping me with an internship and Inner Voice giving me a safe place to live with support services, I was able to take advantage of a government program that gave me access to a six month IT training program for Veterans , I was able to get a job and I could see that there was a path out.  My experience with my Case Manager Joyce and everyone I have worked with an Inner Voice and National Able has been amazing.  I was barely surviving before and now I have hope for the future, a new job and a new apartment.  I’m so thankful for this great program.”
