In October 2024, Mr. Campbell lost the apartment he had long called home after he could no longer keep up with rising market rent. With nowhere to go, he found himself on the streets and in urgent need of support. He first sought help from a South Side Chicago program that assists people experiencing homelessness, and that organization referred him to the Salvation Army, which ultimately brought him to Inner Voice’s Robert Johnson House.
Mr. Campbell arrived with no belongings and none of the documents required to rebuild his life, as everything had been lost during the eviction process.
At the Robert Johnson House, he partnered closely with his case manager to secure his vital documents. Once he obtained them, including a state ID, he began working with Inner Voice’s employment specialist. He showed up consistently, followed every step, and took on multiple jobs to begin saving for his future.
Months of steady work paid off because one day, with unmistakable pride, Mr. Campbell shared that he had saved enough to cover his first month’s rent and his move-in fee.
With determination and the right support Mr. Campbell is once again stepping across the threshold of a place he can truly call home. His hard work and tenacity led him to this place and we are wishing Mr. Campbell continued success in his journey to stability and independence.
