Success Story: Doyle

In the summer of 2018, Doyle packed two suitcases and took a train from Mississippi to Chicago, in search of a better future.

The 28-year-old Army veteran's life in the Windy City got off to a rocky start. When his living arrangement didn't work out, he found himself on the streets, struggling to survive.

That was when Doyle learned about Inner Voice, where he enrolled in our Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program. Next, he participated in our three-day Veterans Job Readiness Seminar, offered monthly. Shortly after that, he attended a job fair, where he interviewed with five organizations, and got three job offers. The job he accepted was with Inner Voice!

On November 1, Doyle started his position as Case Manager with Inner Voice's Chronic Homeless Initiative. He says he took this position because "I don’t want anyone to fall into the same situation that I was in. I look out for my 26 clients like I would have wanted someone to look out for me."

A participant in Inner Voice's new Transition in Place program, Doyle moved into his own apartment earlier this month. Now employed and secure, he looks forward to a bright 2019.

Success Story: Jason

“Let me tell you about Jason. He is one of our success stories,” says Ian Estinor, Employment Placement Specialist, Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program (HVRP) at Inner Voice. Ian recounts with a smile that, earlier this year, Jason had heard about a job fair at Navy Pier. He showed up for it a day early, and talked with one of the managers who was heading the fair. “Jason wanted the manager to know that he was really interested in working there. He had brought his resume and was hired on the spot.  He’s been promoted several times in a short period of time. He is a really motivated guy.”

Of his experience with Inner Voice, Jason says, “I came to Inner Voice during a very difficult period in my life. At first I was a little reluctant, not knowing what to expect. I have to confess it was probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. The entire process was really easy, and the entire staff are very dedicated to helping veterans in need. I learned very quickly that if you do as the staff asks, they will be 100% committed to helping you, from getting you the tools or whatever you need, from personal hygiene items to certificates needed for employment.

“I have since found my calling, and have been promoted twice, and I cannot thank Inner Voice enough for never giving up and always having a positive outlook from everyone. I actually feel every time I go to the office more like family than a corporation. I cannot stress this enough: if you’re a veteran and are struggling, take the first step and go see the Inner Voice staff. I can, from experience, let you know you will not be disappointed.”
